OKC JS Coding Group Gathers Crowd of 59

OKC JS met at StarSpace46 this Tuesday with the ever-popular Lightning Talks event. December is a quiet month for many user groups, but 59 Oklahomans braved the cold to learn, educate, and inspire one another in the tech industry.

The Oklahoma City JavaScript User Group noted that their January 2017 meeting will mark a 5 year long campaign of teaching coding skills to Oklahomans.

Oklahoma City Free Press, an Independent reader-engaged community news site, visited StarSpace46 on Tuesday to attend OKCJS. Brett Dickerson, of OKC FP, was there to capture the story. Read the full article online here.

Dickerson interviewed several presenters to hear their take on why they enjoy speaking at OKC JS and thoughts on why teaching the community is important. Quoted below is Aaron Kraus, Senior Web Developer at Clevyr.

“We’re all kind of a team in this community. We all learn together. We can teach each other things,” said Kraus.

Dickerson on the collaboration between StarSpace46 and Techlahoma.

“[Techlahoma’s] most recent project has been collaborating with the brand-new StarSpace46 co-working space just west of downtown and Film Row. One large room that had been an industrial garage for the previous owners was transformed this summer into an effective meeting space for the various user groups Techlahoma assists.”
